Update on Fund Raising for the Goat Project

Help success breed success

Help success breed success

Following the launch of the ‘Goat project’ in November 2008, we have once again been delighted with the response from our members. With their help, the total we had raised towards our goal by March was £3,347.86.  We also know that there are significant fund still in the pipeline.  Initially our goal was £8,200, but following the recent decline in the pound we have calculated it to be more in the region of £9.500.  However, a group of the Executive Committee members are working very hard towards achieving this goal by the end of the year. Some of our ideas are mentioned below and others are still in the planning stages:

• You will see from the enclosed raffle tickets that all the funds raised from the raffle will go directly to the Goat project. We are grateful to our sponsors who have donated the generous prizes on offer.  Please help us by selling as many tickets as you can to family, friends and colleagues.
• We are still selling goats at £43 (or shares in goats) for any one who missed out last time round.  They make an unusual gift whilst doing something worthwhile for our cause.  Some people have specifically named their goats, including one called Lola!
• Mike and Ruth Downham have kindly offered their farm as the venue for a Ceilidh for William Howard and Tanzanian students when they visit in July and the William Howard students are enthusiastic to raise money for the goat project so will use this opportunity in some way.
• To give a broader background to the Goat project, we are mounting a display of photos and information about people living with HIV/AIDS and AIDS orphans.  This issue, which we are trying to address (albeit in a small way), not only affects the Uru district but the whole of sub-Saharan Africa.  The display will be on show at Carlisle Library from 6th to 20th April 2009.. Some of the material will also be displayed at the AGM.

The EC very much hope other members will be inspired to ‘take up the baton’ and try some fundraising of their own.  Susan and Brian Wind will be delighted to provide information on any of the above and can be contacted by email on shodgson@reiver.co.uk or by phone on 01228 576811.
